Why are we introducing Release Update Pack releases?
The objective is to ensure an easier patch application process and overall better software quality. AutoVue customers will now be able to plan and install RUPs on a regular basis to take advantage of the latest identified issues and no longer having to wait for our annually scheduled release.
The benefits to our customers are the following:
- Ease of patch application: Customers will no longer have to manage patch prerequisites and incompatibilities. They can apply the RUP which includes the fix for the reported issue(s).
- Better overall quality: All RUPs will go through quality testing thus enabling customers to easily get the latest quality software for their AutoVue release.
- Regular releases: RUPs will be shipped following a regular schedule. Customers can search patches on My Oracle Support or refer to this note for the latest available RUP versions.
What is a Release Update Pack release?
A Release Update Pack will be a single consolidated patch consisting of a collection of defect fixes. The release includes any critical client one-off patches delivered since the previous release or RUP and fixed issues targeted specifically for the RUP. Full installer RUPs are cumulative and will include those fixes provided in earlier RUPs. Non full installer RUPs should be handled on a case by case basis. Customer has to consult the Readme file that ships with the RUP to find out if the RUP is cumulative or not. RUPs will be released like a patch and available for download on My Oracle Support.
What are the current Release Update Packs?
- AutoVue 21.0.2 RUP 6 (184.108.40.206)
Each flavor of AutoVue requires a different patch. Please refer to the below list of patches and install the patch that applies to your AutoVue flavor:
- <Patch 30976071> for AutoVue Electro-Mechanical Professional (EMP).
- <Patch 32602530> for AutoVue 3D.
- <Patch 32602602> for AutoVue EDA.
- <Patch 32602549> for AutoVue 2D.
- <Patch 32602496> for AutoVue Office.
What documentation will clients receive with a Release Update Pack release?
Fixes delivered in a RUP will be documented in the AutoVue Release Notes.
How does this affect our clients?
By moving to regular RUP releases, AutoVue customers will now have greater visibility into bugs being fixed within a RUP release versus custom one-off customer fixes which were then later rolled into annual releases.
This is a full installer patch. Please backup important configuration files you modified in the previously installed version of AutoVue in case the installation fails for some reason.
The AutoVue installer will migrate your settings when it detects an older version of the product is installed. Oracle recommends reading section "Upgrading from earlier versions" in the Installation and Configuration Guide" document before you start the installation.
