MS Project XML 2016 Import Takes a Very Long Time or Fails in P6 Professional (Doc ID 2831966.1)

Symptoms

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR

Attempting to import a MS Project XML 2016 file takes a long time or fails in P6 Professional.  For example, importing a very small project (2-4 activities, no relationships) takes 10-17 minutes.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

The import should complete successfully in a short amount of time.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. In P6 Professional select File > Import... from the menu.
  2. Select the Microsoft Project XML 2016 format.
  3. Select the file to import.
  4. Complete the rest of the process then click Finish.
  5. Observe the reported behavior.
