Accessing the Projects Tab Fails with "Unable to load data" When P6 Web Is Accessed from an External Network (over the Internet)

Symptoms
When attempting to access the Projects tab in P6 Web, after loading for a few seconds the following error occurs.
Unable to load data. An unknown error has occurred.
In the P6WebAccess.html file:
<P6 Web> <ERROR> <XSSFilter> </rest/projects/gridData/load (User Id: 4146 DB Id: 1)> <Detected potential cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attack for the page '/p6/rest/projects/gridData/load. Request will be IGNORED! . Referer was null>
Note:ANY of these may be shown in the "potential cross-site request forgery" message:
/p6/rest/settings/application
/p6/rest/projects/setLastProjectId
/p6/rest/projects/gridData/load
/p6/p6/rest/users/save
The following entry is displayed in the log file for a HAR trace:
IP 403 — — [HTML][ERROR][CACHE ??] 324 ms
POST https://p6_domain_name.com/p6/rest/projects/gridData/load
Full response: 403 Forbidden

This issue occurs while connecting to P6 Web thru NGINX (web server / reverse proxy / load balancer / mail proxy / HTTP cache software).
