Links Configured With "mailto:" Protocol Opens Microsoft Edge Browser Instead of Creating New Email Message Using Default Email (Outlook) Program (Doc ID 2858239.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 22, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications MetaSolv Solution - Version 6.3.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

MetaSolv Solution's email feature using Links configured with the "mailto:" protocol no longer works. The Links now open the Microsoft Edge browser instead of a creating a new, untitled, email message using the default email program (Outlook) as it did previously. This behavior applies to all areas where this feature exists (some examples listed below).

   * My Desktop > My Links
   * Customize My Navbar
   * PSR order's Order Information > Links tab

Additional Information

Entering a properly formatted "mailto:" protocol email address string into the Microsoft Edge brower's URL address bar and pressing the ENTER key does open a new, untitled, email message using the default email program (Outlook).

Recreation Steps

NOTE: Ensure the following configuration on the machine where the MetaSolv Solution client is installed:

   * Microsoft Edge is the default browser.
   * Microsoft Outlook is the default email program.

1. Open the tbs.exe application.

2. Click Customize Links in the My Links section of My Desktop.

3. Enter an email address in the URL field with using the "mailto:" protocol.

4. Click Test Link and the Microsoft Edge browser opens instead of a new, untitled, email message.

Changes

Customer installed or upgraded to MetaSolv Solution version 6.3.1.333 - Patch 32834810: MSS_6_3_1_B333(6.3.1.4.0).
