Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

Remove unneeded or outdated change history records/rows from ITEM_HISTORY table in two steps. The first step can be performed while the system is in use and the second step can be done during the maintenance window. The bulk of the work is done during the first step to minimize the downtime required by the second step.

Scope
This document applies to the following products and versions:

Note: Agile PLM version 9.3.3, 9.3.4, and 9.3.5 are in Sustaining Support. Any issue rising from the execution of the scripts attached to this KM article cannot involve Oracle Development on these versions of the product. Sustaining Support policy details can be obtained at https://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/057419.pdf

Purpose
Agile PLM maintains a product record for all Items, Changes, Events, and Actions in the form of history records in the database. Systems that have been in use for many years will have large number of records in the various history tables. These tables tend to be large in size and utilize the most storage on the database. If the retention period limit for the older records has been reached, they can be purged from the system to reduce the size of these tables. Reducing the size of these tables will reclaim space, improve performance and manageability. The purpose of this Knowledge Management (KM) article provides a set of scripts to list and remove rows from the ITEM_HISTORY table on an Agile PLM system.

Note: After running these scripts, the product records older than the retention period will not appear under the History Tab in the Web or the Java Client.
