Question about dns_verify_domain_port result caching (Doc ID 2865102.1)

Last updated on APRIL 26, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 8.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

We are about to start using dns_verify_domain_port to do RBL lookups before accepting incoming SMTP connections and we would like to know the expected impacts on DNS service, etc.

Testing with imsimta test -mapping -debug -table PORT_ACCESS -flags A

The first time we enter the probe "TCP|1.2.3.4|25|9.9.9.9|12345", we see:

Note the lack of the "NN centiseconds elapsed" line.

In the rbldnsd logs, we can confirm that it did not repeat the DNS lookup.

Is there a general purpose caching of DNS results in the MTA?
