Pin_rel Process Is Getting Stuck Due To Database Locks (Doc ID 2873740.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 05, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Billing and Revenue Management - Version 7.5.0.22.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

On Oracle Communication Billing and Revenue Management (BRM), 7.5.0.22.0 version,

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR
---------------

Pin_rel process is getting hanged/stuck due to database locks. There were no errors reported in pin_rel logs during this. Here Customer is monitoring and kept an alert to track pending file in pin_rel output directory, so they get alerts when there are more files are pending. The ash report shows, during the lockwaits, session was blocked by another session as below:

ash report:

Here Customer have tried to process the files manually after this, which went fine. But the Database (DB) locks are getting created again after sometime.

Here as a workaround, they need to stop the Rated Event loader (REL) process, and need to clear the database locks with help of their Database Administrator(DBA), and after that they need to manually load all the output Call detail Records (CDRs) from Elastic Charging Engine (ECE) which got stuck or half processed due to locks with pin_rel.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
-----------------------
pin_rel should process the files without issues

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. On BRM 7.5.0.22.0 (With ECE integrated Setup), rate usages in ECE.
2. Check if there are any pending files in REL output directory for processing.
3. Verify if pin_rel is getting stuck and stops processing the files.

Due to this issue, the CDRS will not be loaded in DB, which creates mismatch between BRM/ECE data, and every time the issue occurs, Customer need to manually remove DB locks and restart rel process and manually need to load the impacted output CDRs.
