Goal

How to shrink the SUMTASKSPREAD table in an Oracle database when it has grown very large:

The SUMTASKSPREAD table contains summary data for Activity Spreads.  Summarization by weekly (as opposed to monthly) periods, and/or including records for baseline projects, can accumulate a lot of data in this and other summary tables.  A very large SUMTASKSPREAD table can impact P6 application performance as well as increasing overall database size, even after switching from weekly to monthly summarization and cleaning up unneeded records using the instructions in Does Changing the Summarization Period From Weekly to Monthly Reduce the Amount of Data That Gets Generated? (Doc ID 2439856.1). 

If necessary the table size can be reduced using the steps below.
