C2M 2.7 vs 2.8 in size and performance questions

Working to cut over to a 2.8 in the next month or two and there have been some noticeable differences between the 2.7.0.1.0 systems versus the new 2.8.
1. What was noticed first is how much longer it takes WebLogic to deploy all the apps (SPLService, SPLWeb, WebServices).
Under 2.7 WebLogic 12.2.1.3.0 could deploy/active the apps within 5 minutes of the clusters starting up.
Under 2.8 WebLogic 12.2.1.4.0 now takes about 8 mins or longer to deploy the apps
2. The sizes of the apps are larger in comparison
Under 2.7 SPLService is 294M and SPLWeb is 783M
Under 2.8 SPLService is 302M and SPLWeb is 1.2G SPLService is comparable while SPLWeb is 50% larger

Do the above observation match the test environments if comparing a 2.7.0.1.0 to a 2.8 system? Are the above normal times and sizes or is something else at work in the 2.8 system?
