ACTUAL BEHAVIOR
---------------
%IMTA-W-EMPTYINVALIDQUEUEFILE, is deleting an empty/invalid message file.
In /var/adm/messages:
The summary is:
03:32:09.65 incoming connection is logged
03:32:11 job controller deletes the file because “empty or invalid”
03:32:12.68 SMTP server logs the enqueue — this happens after the data is synced to disk
So it took 3 seconds to receive the 117k message (and do LDAP, etc) and during that time job_controller happened to scan the queue for missed files, found this one was "empty??" and deleted it.
We discount the idea that it might have been invalid (rather than empty) because the same message was delivered successfully to other users on other backends.
The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users have the potential to lose emails, since they are not being delivered to their inbox.
