Error Message When Opening .XLS Custom Report Results: "Microsoft Excel We found a problem with some content in <filename>. Do you want us to try and recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click Yes." (Doc ID 2922375.1)

Symptoms

When running a custom report, a .xls file is generated with the report results. When attempting to open the report with MS Excel, the error below is displayed in Excel. When clicking "Yes" at the Excel prompt, the Excel window will open the report in "PROTECTED VIEW - Office has detected a problem with this file. Editing it may harm your computer. Click for more details." When clicking that link for more details, there is further explanation regarding the "Protected View" status. This report has Macros that are not enabled or working in this state and the report results cannot be used unless the issue with the Protected View is resolved.

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:

  1. Log into the Unifier environment.
  2. Navigate to the Project/Shell where the custom report is located > User Mode > Reports > Custom Reports > Select "BIPReport1" > Run the report with default parameters.
  3. The report results are generated in a .xls file and the resulting report is greater than 150Mb in size.
  4. Download and attempt to open the report in MS Excel.
  5. The error above is displayed and the report macros are not loading, it is in "PROTECTED VIEW".
