SElinux Enforcing And Messaging Server Behavior (Doc ID 2945838.1)

Last updated on APRIL 28, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Communications Messaging Server - Version 8.1.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Referring to the following KM document:

Error When Running Configure For Messaging Server - ERROR: updateCfgVersion returned failure status: 5 (Doc ID 2196938.1)

In a specific deployment, there was a requirement to run with SElinux set to "Enforcing" mode.  This caused problems (addressed in the above KM document) to which the solution was to "not do that".  At this time, this is no longer an option.

There should be documentation of some form that should explain:
1.  The types of problems caused for Messaging Server when SElinux set to "Enforcing" mode
2.  How to solve/workaround those

It appears that the problem is that certain things (like imsimta cleandb, when run by updateCfgVersion after patching) expect to be able to write certain files because it is running as root, but "Enforcing" mode prevents that.
A probable solution/workaround would be to get some "label" on something to permit it.

The only option that exists right now is to disable SELinux to get around this problem, and this is not optimal.
