GRCM 7.8 Admin Tool: Can you add or remove choices to existing lists?

Using GRCM 7.8 with Patchsets 1 - 23.
1. Go to Organization > Configuration Admin
2. Click Maintain Lists > highlight the name of an existing list
3. Under 'List Contents' the Add, Remove, Save buttons are grayed out for existing default fields
For new fields added it is possible to use the Add, Remove, Save buttons. Only for the Existing fields are the options greyed out.
Is it possible to use the add, remove, save buttons for default existing fields, through the GUI?
