Symptoms

The Mobile Workstations (MW) in the field are sporadically going out-of-range in significant numbers.  Investigation indicates that wireless access is not the problem since access is provided by several carriers and the connection to the internet is still available on the mobile units.

Over the course of several hours, the out-of-range mobiles will return to in-range status.  During this time, the mobiles are not, in fact, out of range of the server. For example: whenever a mobile user updates the status of an order or completes one, this is successful. The server will mark him in-range and then will immediately mark him out-of-range.

This problem makes it difficult to dispatch orders to the mobiles because the server thinks they are out
of range and dispatchers do not have an accurate view of the mobile status.
