Should Automation Plugins Wait For Long Time For Response From External Systems? (Doc ID 956053.1)

Goal

Our design for the client having automation tasks, this will wait for the external systems more than 1 month for respond. The metalink document “<Note.737531.1> FAQ for OSM Designers” tells that it is a bad design, and all the automations need to be completed within a short time, or else it will affect scalability.

Is there any other way for doing this functionality? The external systems will respond after a long period of time; afterwords order has to be updated.

This note provide alternate solutions and reasoning for it.
