What is being announced?
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 is currently shipping on HP-UX PA-RISC, and the latest available patchset level is 11.2.0.2.  We will continue to ship further 11g release 2 patchsets, Patch Set Updates, and Critical Patch Updates on HP-UX PA-RISC, just as we do on other platforms. Oracle Database 12c will not ship on HP-UX PA-RISC. Customers can either stay on an Oracle Database 11g Release, as per Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy, or move to another platform when they want to upgrade to the next major Oracle release.

What is the Support plan for Oracle Database products on HP-UX on PA-RISC?
The final release for the Oracle Database (including client) on HP-UX on PA-RISC will be the final patchset for Oracle Database 11g Release 2.  Refer to Release Schedule of Current Database Releases (Doc ID 742060.1) for more information.

Will customers be forced to move off of the PA-RISC hardware?
No!  The Oracle Database on HP-UX on PA-RISC is supported under Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy.  This means you will be able to receive Oracle's support as long as you have paid for support.

Over time, per Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy, products move from Premium to Extended to Sustaining Support.

Will fixes, security alerts, Patch Set Updates, and Critical Patch Updates continue to be available for all supported releases?
YES.  Fixes, security alerts, Patch Set Updates, and Critical Patch Updates will continue to be provided through Premier and Extended Support for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 on HP-UX PA-RISC.

Will an Oracle Database client running on HP-UX on PA-RISC interoperate with later versions (beyond 11.2) of the Database running on other platforms?
Yes, per Oracle's policy regarding dissimilar client/server versions of the Database as explained in Client / Server / Interoperability Support Between Different Oracle Versions (Doc ID 207303.1).

Will Oracle Database be upgraded and certified with new distributions and versions of HP-UX PA-RISC ?
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (including all the 11.2 patchsets) will continue to be supported on HP-UX 11.31. Oracle will certify Database 11.2 on future versions of the HP-UX operating system on PA-RISC that are generally available within the Extended Support period for 11g Release 2 as documented in the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy.
