Oracle VM Server x86 Dom0 Operations and Software Installation Policy (Doc ID 1580715.1)

Last updated on JULY 28, 2019

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Oracle VM - Version 3.0.1 and later
Linux x86-64

Purpose

This document clarifies the allowed operations and software installation policies for the Oracle VM Server X86 management domain, sometimes known as dom0.

Beginning with Oracle VM 3, the Oracle VM Manager application performs the central sole of managing the virtualization infrastructure. Making manual modifications in the dom0 could cause inconsistencies between the server and the Oracle VM Manager's idea of the configuration. Therefore any changes, modifications, or additions to the dom0 not performed through the Oracle VM Manager, command-line interface tools, or web-services interface (WS-API) are considered as uncertified and unsupported by Oracle, except in explicitly-defined exceptions documented officially in the product documentation or on My Oracle Support (MOS).

NOTE, for releases newer or equal to version 3.4.1, please see "Oracle® VM Concepts Guide" -> "2.2.2.1 Management Domain (dom0)" -> "Supported Operations in the Management Domain (dom0)". For 3.4.1 see here.
