Symptoms

When a field is created in Salesforce (SFDC), a number is assigned to the maximum amount of characters (255 max). Sometimes an admin will set this number too low (such as 8) causing a data entry over 8 characters to triggers an error message. For example:

Could not perform Action: Save and Return to Opportunity
During commerce integration Process ID: 4653759, Name: SFDC Quote - Upsert
Exception occurred for Integration Process ID: 4653759, Name: SFDC Quote - Upsert
BigMachines.BigMachinesSyncPrimaryQuote: execution of AfterUpdate
caused by: System.DmlException: Insert failed. First exception on row 0; first error: CANNOT_INSERT_UPDATE_ACTIVATE_ENTITY, A workflow or approval field update caused an error when saving this record. Contact your administrator to resolve it.
Synchronization Id: data value too large: Custom Hosting (max length=8): []

The last line shows that this field needs to be increased from 8 characters.
