Why does login to Sales Cloud for Outlook fail With "The security certificate is invalid or not installed"? (Doc ID 1901572.1)

Symptoms

After installing a new version of Sales Cloud for Outlook client , and entering their ID and password to login, an error message pops up stating that "The security certificate is invalid or not installed".

After Release 7 Patch Bundle 6, it is not required to install server certificate.
