Why Does The 'Depreciate when placed in service' Check Box For The STL Method? (Doc ID 2039659.1)

Oracle Fusion Assets Cloud Service - Version 11.1.8.0.0 and later

Goal

I just want to understand the rationale behind why 'Depreciate when placed in service' check-box does not hold for calculated depreciation methods, like STL. I understand that for calculated depreciation methods, Oracle ignores the check-box even when it is checked and it always starts depreciating from the period in which the prorate date falls, for calculated depreciation methods.
