Goal

There is a custom field MSegment_c that has a picklist. One of the values on the picklist needs to change which is named as Industrial/Commercial . Rather than create a new value with the new name and migrate all affected records to the new value, you wish to change the display name (meaning) of the value.

During an export the MSegment_c Meaning column is blank. MSegment_c contains the look up value on the export. You are currently meeting some reporting requirements by doing an analysis on exported data with an external system. Because MSegment_c Meaning is blank, the only option is to use the lookup code in the analysis. The lookup code value is no longer desired, you only want the meaning to display instead.

The behavior is observed in all custom fields that contain a picklist.
