Extremely Slow I/O Performance On Disk Partitions Created Using fdisk DOS Compatible Mode (Doc ID 2098513.1)

Last updated on APRIL 09, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Database Cloud Service - Version N/A to N/A [Release 1.0]
Oracle Compute Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Overall I/O performance of attached disks is extremely slow and degrades the performance of applications using such a partition.

View the partition table of the disk using the 'fdisk -ul" command.

A DOS-compatible partition will have a starting sector on a boundary NOT divisible by 1024. For example, if the first partition of a disk is created using DOS-Compatible mode, it will start at sector 63, not 1024 or 2048.
