All Product Searches Result in 0 Products Found Even When a Product Clearly Exists

Symptoms

The following steps reproduce the problem:

1. Log into the admin server for an Out-Of-The-Box storefront
2. Navigate to Design-> Layout -> Search Results Layout
3. Click on grid view
4. Delete this widget and add it back in
5. Click on Preview
6. In the search box type for a known item
7. Confirm that there are items in the dropdown
8. Click Show all results >>
9. Notice that the results show:
