Error When Trying To Save, Preview, or Deploy Document in Document Designer [An Unknown Error has occurred]

There are several symptoms for this issue that affect only large document in Document Designer:

  1. Attempting to save document results in a long loading gif animation and then an error is thrown - "An unknown error has occurred"
  2. Attempting to opening page XSL results in same behavior
  3. Attempting to preview Document results in same behavior
  4. Attempting to deploy the document results in same behavior

Document Designer log does not show anything out of ordinary.
