Custom Subject Area Has "disappeared" From Reports (Doc ID 2143684.1)

Symptoms

A Custom Subject Area has disappeared from the BI Catalog. Existing reports built using the CSA are not working.

This CSA is in Error status in the Custom Subject Areas in Application Composer.

ERROR
-----------------------
When clicking on the "Error" hyperlink, the error displays in a pop-u:
"The publication process could not update the Oracle BI EE repository."


STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Navigator
2. Application Composer
3. Application = Sales
4. Custom Subject Areas
5. Setup Custom Subject Area
6. Publish Custom Subject Area
7. Confirm the CSA submits for publishing successfully.
8. After several minutes (within 30 minutes to an hour), the word 'Error' appears in the Status column of Custom Subject Areas

BUSINESS IMPACT
---------------------------
Due to this issue, users cannot use the Custom Subject Area to create new reporting. Existing reports built using the CSA are not working.
