Auto Complete For Account Picker In Edit/Create Contact Not Returning Results

We have a field leading From Contact to Account. When searching for an account, only the last used objects will appear.
We would like this to parse through all options, not just the latest ones, as it does at the moment.
If we search for "ABC" an error of "No Data" will appear, even though we know such an account exists. Only after going to the "Advanced Search" can we find it.
