Configuring SSO Not Working in BICS Error: "SSO Authentication Result Authentication Failed"

When trying to configure SSO in BICS with the on-premise Active Directory, the following error is seen :
SSO Primary Status Code RESPONDER
SSO Secondary Status Code UNKNOWN_PRINCIPAL
SSO Status Message No user returned during attribute based authentication using attribute mapping for name ID: XXXXXX and name ID format = urn:oasis:names:tc:SAML:1.1:nameid-format:unspecified
The BICS user is setup with "Use email address as username" option.
SSO was enabled for BICS
