Groovy On Two FCLs Not Working As Expected

ACTUAL BEHAVIOR

Groovy on two FCLs not working as expected

Two fields called rep forecast and manager forecast. both are fixed choice lists and pretty much have same values. manager forecast has one additional value. these values are 'Pipeline', 'Upside' and 'Commit'.

when the rep chooses one of the values, the manager forecast should have the same value initially, but when manager can override the value in manager forecast field.

to achieve this, using a field trigger with the following code.. however, it doesn't seem to work

println("current rep forecast"+getSelectedListDisplayValues(RepForecast_c))
setAttribute(ManagerForecast_c,getSelectedListDisplayValues(RepForecast_c))

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR

ManagerForecast_c value should be updated with the value of RepForecast_c

STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Go to opportunities.
2. Edit an opportunity.
3. Update value for RepForecast fixed choice list and click save.
4. The managerForecast fixed choice list does not update with the value of RepForecast.

BUSINESS IMPACT
-----------------------
The issue has the following business impact:
Due to this issue, users cannot update the value of a fixed choice list based on another fixed choice list.
