How to Change the Full Spelled Out State to the State Abbreviation in Fusion UI?

Goal
When selecting the State in various Fusion screens or searching for State, the customer noticed the State is not using the two character abbreviation (i.e. AL), but instead the full spelling of the state is displayed (i.e. ALABAMA).
How can they get the two character state abbreviation to show up in the UI as the default instead of the state being fully spelled out?
