Symptoms

Oracle has identified potential issues with processing Voluntary Deduction and/or Pre-Tax Deduction element formulas in Payroll run in Release 11 PB9. The issue can cause two different cases in payroll run.

Case 1 – Periodicity

Excess amount can be deducted by Voluntary Deduction and/or Pre-Tax Deduction formulas in the scenario where Periodicity in the element entry is not periodic. Example, Benefit Element Entry for Dental Deduction is $100 / Month. In a Semi-Monthly Payroll, this may result in a deduction of $100 each pay period, instead of $50.

When might this error be generated?

You have set the Periodicity in Voluntary Deduction and/or Pre-Tax Deduction element entries to anything other than the default (‘periodically’). Example, it might be set to ‘Monthly’.

Case 2 - Customization

Payroll run fails with the following error -
HR_6867_HRPROC_FMLA_ORA_ERR
ORACLE_ERROR_TEXT
FORMULA_ERROR_TEXT Formula GLB_DEDN_WSA, line 99, a local variable was used before being initialized. (1=EE_ARRAY)
AFDICT_APP_PREFIX-PAY-1635399: An error occurred during formula execution.
Contact your help desk. (ORACLE_ERROR_TEXT=) (FORMULA_ERROR_TEXT=Formula
GLB_DEDN_WSA, line 99, a local variable was used before being initialized.
(1=EE_ARRAY))

When might this error be generated?

You have done significant customization to the base Voluntary Deduction and/or Pre-Tax Deduction element formula. Specifically the code that sets the Working Storage Area (WSA) variables has been commented out.
