How are currencies associated between Account and Opportunity Records?

 When attempting to create new Opportunities from the Account page, it does not show the user's currency as the Opportunity currency (e.g. My Profile > Canadian). However, when creating an Opportunity from the Opportunity page, it does show the user's currency (CAD). Why is that?
