Escalation And Expire For Approvals

Users tried using the escalate mechanism for requisition approvals. However, the escalate and expire are making use of same STATIC.
User's referred to On BPM Task Configuration: Would like to disable escalations without Disabling Expiration. (Doc ID 2144002.1), but whenever they uncheck the STATIC in the escalation tab to do nothing , the UI is not taking the escalation. User's expect to be able to escalate and turn off the expire . User's only want the escalate to work and not the expire.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
2. Choose administration task configuration for ReqApproval (12211025_24010485) .
3. Choose deadlines.
4. Choose escalation --> escalate.
5. Choose duration static and minutes 10.
6. Choose maximum escalation levels =1 and highest approver title = manager.
7. Click comments and save and click commit task.
Notice changes are there after moving off the deadlines tab and back but fields are disabled.
Whenever i Uncheck the STATIC in Escalation TAB moved to Do Nothing TAB and saved it. I see that its not taking the Escalation.
