Account/Contact Search Not Working

Information in this document applies to any platform.
When a name is entered into the "Find" search field in Account or Contact screen, and the magnifying glass icon is clicked to search, no results are displayed. There are many records with the "Find" criteria that do exist and should be returned.
Local Search does not retrieve any result or expected results.
