Purpose

Database upgrade to a new major version in the on-premise environment is very well documented but upgrading to a new major version in Oracle Database Cloud Service (DBCS) instances is not yet documented. With the recent release of Oracle Database 12.2, customers with 11.2.0.4 or 12.1.0.2, more customers are beginning to investigate how to upgrade their DBCS instance. This document serves as a guide to applying the information found in the Oracle Database 12.2 Upgrade Guide to the process of  upgrading their database in the Oracle Cloud.
