Contact: Read-only 'Contact' data security is not working if Contact had an Account associated

Customer has created a custom Sales Representative role named XYXYXY Representative.

For this newly created role, they have removed 'Contact standalone' data security, that provides Edit/Delete access for standalone contacts.

This is working fine for new contacts and contacts owned by different users that doesn't have any account associated.
However, when they remove associated account from existing contacts owned by other users, they are still getting edit access for that contacts, even though those contacts became standalone contacts.

Why is this happening? Can it be corrected?
