R12 Upgrade Issue - Work Phone is "lost" after Convert a Lead

we have the following issue:

I create a Lead. I fill out the Primary Phone information. I convert the Lead. During conversion a new Contact is created. In R12 after conversion the Primary Phone is set to null. The created Contact has the correct Primary Phone filled. However when comparing to R11, where the Primary Phone is filled on Lead, the Work Phone is empty on the created Contact within R12, but filled in R11. Have made and attached screenshots to demonstrate the situation.
