Auto Assignment Is Not Happening When Click On "Save And Close" (Doc ID 2286476.1)

Symptoms

Enabled auto territory assignment for opportunity object.

But the assignment is happening only when click on "save" or "save and continue"
But it is not working when click on "save and close" button.

The opportunity is in Open status.

Research:
Since using "Save and Close" triggers asynchronous assignment, tried even waiting for some time and then check the record, but still do not see assignment happening.
