Puerto Rico Act 135 allows employees that are between the ages of 16-26 & earn less than 40k to be exempt from state income tax withholding.
- Special W2 box coding occurs for those employees. (we've worked on this piece before)
We currently have those employees coded as exempt from SIT. Problem is when they reach the age of 27 we have to un-exempt their SIT.
So our question becomes is there a proper way to code these employees in a manner that SIT will not be withheld and the system will know if they reach the age limit to then begin withholding.
