Cannot update robots.txt through endpoint /ccadmin/v1/merchant/robots (Doc ID 2290980.1)

If a customer is trying to use the endpoint /ccadmin/v1/merchant/robots to update the robots.txt file and they are getting back a "Status: 500" error in the response they will have to perform the following workarounds (In Solution section) to update this file. I have included samples of the request, the error in the response, and the associated error you would see in the logs for this issue.
