Lead Conversion And Qualifying Is Resulting Into Error

When attempting to Qualify OR Convert Leads into Opportunities, the following error occurs.

The Lead was not saved because the customer record has been deleted. Remove the invalid customer or associate a valid customer to the Lead and save again (MKL-315066)

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Navigate to Leads
2. Click on any one of Unqualified Lead
3. Click on "Qualify" button
4. Status is Changed to "Qualified"
5. Click on "Save" button
6. Above error message appears
