Background

Oracle Big Data Preparation Cloud Service (BDP) enables business users to perform self-service data preparation. BDP provides functions that automate, streamline, and guide the process of data ingestion, preparation, and enrichment without costly manual intervention. BDP is available in the Oracle Cloud and powered by Apache Spark and Hadoop. It provides a highly intuitive and interactive user experience, guiding business users with a rich set of recommendations, which results in a significant cost advantage in analytical and big data projects by reducing the amount of time and resources required to ingest and prepare datasets for analysis.

Oracle's Strategy for Self-Service Data Preparation

Direction

With the mainstreaming of Big Data technologies, customers expect unified tool set across multiple functions that are essential for business users and data stewards:

  1. Unified Tools Across All Data– In today’s data landscape it has become extremely important for users to have a unified set of tools to handle all the types of data needing to be analyzed – regardless of the source, format, complexity or whether it is structured or unstructured.
  2. Seamless User Experience between Preparation and Visualization– Enabling business users to work from the visualization UI and have the system make repair, enrichment, and visualization recommendations that can be executed and previewed without needing to leave the visualizations.
  3. Single Tool Set for Data Stewards– Empowering data stewards to prepare and enrich data within persisted data transformations for building re-usable datasets.

Today, Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) provides data visualization, preparation, and data flows for business users. Integrating the core functions of BDP - data preparation recommendations, and enrichment functions into Oracle Analytics Cloud can provide business users with a consistent and integrated user experience between all data tasks (acquisition, transformation, preparation, visualization, and collaboration). This combination drives down deployment costs and improves business user productivity.

Considering these benefits, Oracle designates Oracle Analytics Cloud as the strategic product for future enhancements for business user analytics needs including self-service data preparation. Oracle shall prioritize uptake of key BDP capabilities into Oracle Analytics Cloud.

Customers of Big Data Preparation Cloud Service shall continue to receive support for existing functionality as per Oracle Cloud Hosting and Delivery Policies (https://www.oracle.com/contracts/). However, Oracle shall no longer develop any new features for the Big Data Preparation Cloud Service.

Oracle Big Data Preparation Cloud Service customers are encouraged to transition to the strategic Oracle Analytics Cloud to benefit from continued product innovation across self-service analytics including data preparation.

Commitment to Existing Deployments

Oracle Big Data Preparation Cloud Service has been adopted worldwide by a number of enterprises. Oracle will remain committed to these customers and will continue to support and maintain BDP as specified in the Oracle Cloud Hosting and Delivery Policies.
