Last updated on OCTOBER 17, 2023

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 6.0 and later
Oracle Compute Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Linux x86-64 on Oracle Public Cloud

Goal

Questions on how to permanently change the hostname of an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) compute instance.

Please Note: By design, changes made in the /etc/hosts and resolv.conf files revert to their original values, after an instance restart, unless these steps are implemented.
