Qn1:Instead of using these fields "Max Units", "Maximum Weight" and/or "Maximum Volume" on you wave template, can you use "Maximum Orders"?, in this case the system will always select all details of the order avoiding the scenario you described. Probably for this you need to know the order details average instead or total of Units to setup the maximum.

Qn2:We seem to have a lot of order cancellations in our Standard Full DC wave. As I recall, we were told that the max units kick in before allocation, and orders are chosen for the wave until the max units are reached. What it now looks like is that it is actually summing units partly in orders as well then starting to run the wave against partial orders (thus not assigning orders in full to max units). This will eventually leave a bunch of orders in partly allocated at the end of the wave and cancel the unallocated. Also, how will max orders work on it's own instead of max units? Will this use full orders, not partial orders?
Qn3:Does this mean oldest first or newest first? Looks to us that it is selecting newest first. If this is the case, how can we get it to select oldest orders first?
