Restrict the project status change based on user role

Consider the below example:
There are two user roles Role A and Role B who have access to change the project status.
There are four project status: Status A, Status B, Status C, Status D. The next allowable status of Status A is Status B, C and D.
Now, the requirement is, Role A should be able to change the project status from A to B,C or D. But, Role B should be able to change the status from A to B only. Role B should not be able to update status from A to C or D.
Is this achievable using the standard functionality?
