Custom Report Fails to Run with Error "Pre process call failed. Could not get data source connection for: xxx"

Information in this document applies to any platform.
After creating a custom report in Unifier, the report does not return any results. A new popup window displayed but stays blank.
The customer report should be generated with the expected data.
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Log into Unifier
2. Open the customer report.
3. Select any format. Click Report Button to generate report.
Results: A new window opens and begins to load but data is never returned.
The Unifier log file contains the following error:oracle.xdo.XDOException:oracle.xdo.servlet.data.DataException:oracle.xdo.servlet.data.DataException: Pre process call failed. Could not get data source
connection for: UNIFIERSOURCE
