Unable To Associate Partner Contact To An Activity In Sales Cloud

We have noticed that it is not possible to log activities against Partner Contacts in Sales Cloud.
When logging an Activity against a Partner, the Contact search does not include Partner Contact records.
Is this a product limitation that will be addressed in a future release? How can the system support logging activities against Partner Contacts?
