Symptoms
Currently the percentage columns in the worksheet are not stored. Only the amount is stored and the percentage is calculated in real time based on the eligible salary.
While normally fine, this leads to significant issues when dynamic calculations and defaulting formulas are used on percentage columns.
Often, the corresponding eligible salary must be driven by a dynamic calculation, though, not by a formula, as it is based on several other columns. In such cases, the order of processing leads to wrong results in any columns that are dependent on either the amount or percentage columns.
The proposal is to create a database field for both the amount and the percentage field and allow the implementer to choose which one is used to store the value.
If the option to store it in a percentage is chosen, it the eligible salary is not populated yet. The amount would then be populated in real time, just like the percentage is now. It must be a choice by the implementer who needs to ensure the correct option is chosen for all dependent calculations to work correctly.
This should be done for all fields that currently have an automatically calculated percentage field, including:
- Percentage of Eligible Salary
- Budget Percentage - Worker
- Compensation Percentage Maximum
- Compensation Percentage Minimum
- Target Compensation Percentage
- Target Compensation Percentage Maximum
- Target Compensation Percentage Minimum
