Maintenance Window Selection for Upcoming Maintenance of Oracle Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension (JCS-SX)

Information in this document applies to any platform.
We would like to inform you of the upcoming maintenance for Oracle Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension in August 2018. As part of this maintenance, the latest updates will be applied to your Oracle Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension environment.
There are several dates available for this update and you have the option to select your preferred date for each of your service instances.
JCS-SX instance patching cycle is every 3 months and the dates are:
Patching Date 1: First Friday of Patching Month
Patching Date 2: First Saturday of Patching Month
*Patching Date 3: Third Friday of Patching Month (Default Date)*
Patching Date 4: Fourth Saturday of Patching Month
Patching releasing schedule in the next months:
<Year>.1.2 -> February
<Year>.2.2 -> May
<Year>.3.2 -> August
<Year>.4.2 -> November
For example, you could select an earlier date for your dev and test instances and update the production instances later.
Available dates for this update are:
- Friday, August 3th, 2018
- Saturday, August 4th, 2018
- Friday, August 17th, 2018 (default)
- Saturday, August 18th, 2018
The maintenance update will take about 3 hours for Chicago Data Center and 2 hours for other Data Centers and will be scheduled between 9 pm – 5 am, local data center time.
The default August maintenance date for all Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension instances is Friday, August 17th, 2018. If you prefer this default date for all of your Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension instances, no further action is needed.
However, if you want to select a different date for some or all of your instances, please follow the new process outlined below by July 25th 2018, 5 pm Pacific Standard Time.
NOTE: Requests received after that date will not be considered.
How do I select my preferred Maintenance Date?
Customers now have the ability to schedule their maintenance dates in the My Services Dashboard, following the steps below:
1) Sign into your My Services Dashboard for your identity domain: https://myservices.us.oraclecloud.com/mycloud/cloudportal/dashboard
2) Select Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension Service
3) For each of your Service Instances:
a) Click on the service instance name
b) On the Overview page, on the upper right corner click on hamburger menu and select “Maintenance and Service Requ…”
c) This will show a list of maintenance dates, the currently selected or default maintenance date (August 17th) for the upcoming update at the bottom. If you don’t make any changes, this date will be selected for your August update. Please note that the “Requested On” date in your instance may be different from the screenshot below.
d) If you want to change the date selection, click on the “hamburger” menu on the right in the “August 17” line and select “Modify”.
e) Click “Next” in the “Edit Service Request” screen.
f) The next screen shows a list of maintenance windows in the drop-down.
g) Select the date you want to choose.
h) Enter or edit the "Technical Contact" if needed.
i) Click “Submit”.
j) You will now see the new maintenance date for your Service Instance
4) Repeat these steps for each of your Service Instances
Note: You can choose to update all your Service Instances on the same maintenance date or split them across the above two dates.
Will there be a Downtime for Oracle Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension while it is upgraded?
There will be a downtime 3 hours for Chicago Data Center and 2 hours for other Data Centers.
