Oracle Database Cloud Service - Version N/A and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
To perform Targetless Duplication (without connecting rman to source database or catalog) in RMAN, we specify BACKUP LOCATION clause. This only works for source database backups created in a DISK location. If the source database is performing cloud backups using Oracle Database Backup Cloud Service, until now, we could not use these backups to perform Targetless Duplication.
However, with the fix from below bug, capability is added in RMAN to perform Targetless Duplication using cloud backups
BUG 27927431 - TARGETLESS DUPLICATE DOESN'T WORK WHEN THE BACKUPS ARE STORED IN OBJECT STORAGE
This bug is fixed from Oracle RDBMS version 19.1 onwards. For 12c and later versions, you can apply one-off patch for above bug to get the fix.
The next section describes the detailed steps to perform Targetless Duplication using cloud backups.
Below procedure currently works for OCI-Classic storage only. odbsrmt.pl tool currently does not work with OCI object store. Support for the same will be added via BUG 26082402
