Symptoms

Accessing a SOACS WSDL intermittently fails with faultCode=INVALID_WSDL

The following error is seen in the managed server log file :-

<Mar 28, 2019, 11:00:07,639 AM UTC> <Error> <oracle.as.ess> <BEA-000000> <ESS-07304 WebService WSDL URL Retrieval Error for request <request number>.
oracle.j2ee.ws.wsdl.LocalizedWSDLException: WSDLException: faultCode=INVALID_WSDL: Invalid XML in document at: http://<host:port>/soa-infra/services/<path>/<composite>bpel_client_ep?WSDL, line: 98, column: 2: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The markup in the document following the root element must be well-formed.
